About
us
For centuries the Cotswolds and Vale of
Evesham has been famous for its agriculture and horticulture.
Years ago before the onset of plastic packaging and bulk handling,
every process in these industries used a different type of basket.
The neighbouring town of Pershore gets its name from Persh Ora
meaning osier banK; in olde English. The area was home to many
basket makers.
Today there is just one major basketware supplier in the Vale.
Jack Straws Countrystore, formed in 1976, is a leading supplier
of traditional basketware As well as traditional designs Jack
Straws experience and expertise in basketry has seen the introduction
of many innovative new designs. All products are made to be practical
and useful in today’s world whilst retaining the charm of
a handmade item. Continuity of management and staff since the
company formation provides a wealth of knowledge, thus enabling
us to provide for the bulk market or the single bespoke piece.
Of course the world has changed and we can no longer boast that
all our baskets are made in Britain. All small quantities still
are but to remain competitive large orders are sourced abroad.
Where we differ from many of our competitors is that we use our
Knowledge of basket making to ensure British standards are maintained
on products sources abroad. To enable us to fit all price and
delivery criteria we have contacts with basket suppliers throughout
the world.
We also supply gift baskets and hampers for special occasions
to individuals or companies. Either empty, for you to fill, or
filled to your specification. Please order Christmas Hampers early.
